Make an Xcode app icon on your Mac

Xcode keeps your app icon in the asset catalog, as an AppIcon set. Forrrge makes the icon from a description and exports a ready AppIcon set to drop in, or every PNG size.

What Xcode needs

Apple's guide to configuring your app icon splits it by platform:

Export from Forrrge

Once you have an icon you like, Forrrge exports it three ways:

You can also drag a render straight to Xcode, Figma, or Finder, and batch export from the gallery.

Making the icon

  1. Describe it. Start with a mascot, metaphor, object, or mood. You can add a reference image too.
  2. Pick a style. Sixteen render styles, from Glass and Clay to Flat, Pixel, and Watercolor, with lighting, palette, and texture to tune.
  3. Compare. Renders stream in as they generate, and every one saves to the gallery with the recipe that made it.
  4. Clean it up. Remove the background in one click, on your Mac, then export.

Already have an icon?

Forrrge makes icons; it isn't a resizer for artwork you already have. For iOS and iPadOS, Xcode can generate the sizes from one 1024×1024 image on its own (Single Size in the asset catalog's attributes).
